I recently spent 7 nights at the Esplendor Palermo, and enjoyed my stay very much. The reviews of the hotel I read before I left had me concerned about the wifi access, but I found it to be reliable though a bit slow. The same could be said about the single tiny elevator- if you can get a room on the first or second floor do- and take the stairs!
Breakfast is included and is hearty. The bar tender Diego is very knowledgeable about the local wine scene and is also fluent in English. Most staff speak English and are very helpful.
The Esplendor has many good restaurants located nearby, as well as shopping and access to the subway. If you are travelling on business and need to stay near La Rural I highly recommend this hotel- it's a pleasant 5-10 minute walk (depending on your pace) to the conference center.
stayed at the Esplendor Palermo for three nights in February and had an overall pleasant experience. The hotel is well situated in the Palermo barrio of BA, which is hip and populated largely by locals. At first, the hotels immediate surroundings doesn't look like much, but it is only a few blocks from the center of hipness along Honduras.
The room was decent size, clean and modern looking, with a flat TV and a very small balcony. Air conditioning was controlled via a cool remote and it worked extremely well (since it was summer in BA). The room didn't have an alarm clock and just a very simple one-line phone. The wireless Internet didn't work well, but there is one Mac with Internet in the lobby.
The bathroom was more form than function. Some things just didn't make much sense, but then, it's not a business hotel. A bit stingy on the towels. The sink was in the living area, which is great if you have two people traveling.
The included breakfast was fine, but nothing special. Mainly things like pre-fab muffins and cakes and fruits, but enough to get the day started.
The hotel also has a nice little roof deck with a few decent chairs. And a cool waterfall.
Staff was friendly and spoke English well (which can be rare in BA). We arrive early on an overnight flight and we were given a room well before the regular check-in time.
Overall, it's a nice hotel in a cool area, especially for the price of $ a night. I broke up my week stay by also staying more centrally in downtown, which I would recommend to anyone. Radio cabs are safe and cheap, usually not more that or US Dollars for most rides.
Overall, very enjoyable stay. And you have to try Don Julio's for amazing steaks just a few blocks from the hotel. Great food in a cool restaurant full of locals. Order Lomo, which is their tenderloin (about $ US).
Stayed at the Esplendor Palermo 2 nights after a cruise. Because I booked late, my first choices in Palermo were unavailable, but a couple of the experts on the Buenos Aires forum recommended the Esplendor as a new hotel which I might like.
From start to finish, the staff was great to us. Answered questions, helped us with arrangements, very pleasant.
Breakfast was okay, but nothing special. Restaurant is slow for a la carte items, but tasty. Bar in the evening is quiet - mostly the staff. But very eager to please.
Rooms are large, comfortable and idiosyncratic. The bathroom arrangement is a bit odd - why on earth is the commode so close to the door? However, functioned nicely. Finish quality isn't 5* quality, especially for a brand new property, but perfectly adequate.
Internet wasn't working in my room, but was fast down in the lobby.
I was very pleased with the location, service, comfort and price and wouldn't hesitate to return in the future. If the above sounds negative in the least, it isn't. Just want people to know what to expect so their stay can be a positive one as well.
