The high growth of the city over the past few years has can also be seen in the development of its shopping centers. To the traditional artisan products such as ‘alfajores’, handcrafted beers and liqueurs, canned fish and sweaters, others join in. Among these, leather works and clothing in general stand out.

The main commercial center

It is bounded by Catamarca St., Luro Av., Colón Av. and the seaside. Here you can find not only a wide range of product options, but also of prices suitable for all budgets. The main street is San Martín St, starting at the seaside and going all its way up to Pueyrredón diagonal. Along this street you will find artisan fairs and the most varied stores. The shopping malls have movie theaters as well as fine gastronomic options. a.

Güemes Street

Situated in the neighborhoods of Stella Maris and Playa Grande, this street combines first-class gastronomy and exclusive clothes stores.

Sweaters Avenue

Juan B. Justo Avenue is also known as ‘the Avenue of the sweaters’. With a commercial center specialized in knitting, it offers the variety and originality required by the client. All along this avenue, visitors can find outlet stores as well as a whole range of leather clothing and products, jackets and sporting goods.

Commercial and Gastronomic Center Del Puerto

It is located at the entrance to the Port of Mar del Plata, in Martínez de Hoz Av. and 12 de Octubre St. There are shops and stalls that sell canned as well as fresh fish and sea food. Souvenirs can also be bought there.

This center is well-known for its varied and exquisite restaurants specialized in seafood.


How to reach Mar del Plata:



You can reach the city through various means of transport: there are 3 provincial roads and a highway connecting Mar del Plate and the Capital; a railway station with 29 weekly arrivals; a bus station where tickets are sold by over 50 companies; an airport that operates internationally with 6 airline companies in more than 130 weekly services, and an artificial harbor of deep water that –apart from being crucial to the fishing activity- allows cruise ships to anchor at the northern breakwater.

If you travel from Buenos Aires by car, via routes 11, 88 and 226, or via the modern and safe highway 2, the trip can take an average of four hours. But for those who decide to make the most of time, they can get to the city after a 45-minute flight. The International Airport “Astor Piazzolla” is situated only 10 minutes from downtown Mar del Plata. Three airlines operate with national destinations, with a frequency that increases significantly during the summer season.

Mar del Plata is the head of General Pueyrredón District. It is located on the coast of the Argentinian Sea at coordinates 38 º 00' S and 57 º 33' W.

General Pueyrredón District area: 1,453.44 km2 , with a population of 366.6 inhabitants per Km2.
