Flora: In the mountainous zone, abundant rains make possible the existence of dense forests, in which the dominant species are chew,  Lang and the false larch. At the lower level of the forest is plenty of collies, diverse shrubs and flowers like amancay.

Towards the east, the density of the vegetation is diminishing because of the lower rain, changing from high trees to other small bushes species (main, cairn, none) and, finally, to the shrubs and grass.

Fauna: There are many species that are exclusive of Neuquén, standing out two varieties of red deer: the puddle and humble.
Between the carnivorous mammals it is possible to see ferret, the Patagonian zorrino and the Mauna cat. The eagles,  condors, woodpeckers, Patagonian coterie, finch, gallareta, Mac, heron, avutarda stand out between the birds.

Neuquén receives visitors worldwide interested in the sport fishing. Its rivers and lakes introduced species  like the brown trout and rainbow, and other native ones like the pejerrey, perches and carps abound

Economy: It participates in the national gross product with a little more 2%.

  • Fruitgrowing

  • Towards the east of the province, in the valleys of the Neuquén and Limay rivers, the agriculture is intensive and it has been developed by the construction of an artificial irrigation system that includes drains and channels. The apples and pears occupy the first place in production, followed by the peach trees, plums and sour cherries. It is also of consideration the production of grass and vegetables.

  • Hydrocarbons

The Loma de la Lata deposit  has verified reserves of 306,460 million of m3, it is the greatest of the country, and contributes with almost 40% of the gas produced in the country. Pipe lines have been constructed in order to transport the fluid towards others areas of Argentina and the neighboring countries.

  • Production of energy

  • On the Limay and Neuquén rivers, several dams (Stone of the Aguila, Pichi Picún Leufu, the Chocón, Arroyito, Plain Little flag) have been built. They produce  47 % of the hydroelectric energy of  the country.
